American photographer William Christenberry is also an abstract expressionist painter. Although he is best known for his work with vintage large-format cameras, this is a lesser-known collection of his life's work on 35mm Kodachrome slide film. Inspired by Walker Evans, he photographed his hometown in Alabama, in the rural American South, every summer for 43 years between 1964 and 2007. A collector of billboards, the old signs and ruins he saw made his eyes see that the relationship between man and the land had already ended. Are they symbolizing a side of "America" that we do not know?
