This is a collection of photographs by Belgian photographer Stephan Vanfleteren. He is famous for his black-and-white documentary photographs of conflict zones such as Kosovo and Afghanistan, but he is also known for his private, everyday photographs, which show his duality as a photographer. As the name suggests, "Belgicum" is a photographic project about his homeland, Belgium, and it is a collection of photographs that unifies these two aspects of his work. While objectively capturing the country of Belgium, which is geographically sandwiched between powerful countries and has a history with no end of scars, his loving perspective of his homeland is woven into the mix, resulting in a personal collection of photographs. This allows us to pick up the book as a "journey" without any tension in turning the pages.
