Arthur Bondar: SIGNATURES OF WAR *signed Ukrainian-born photographer Arthur Bondar spent five years traveling through the regions of the former Soviet Union. There he photographed portraits of people who had been mobilized for World War II and were now living as veterans. The estimated death toll in the Soviet Union during World War II was 26 million. It is said that this number means that almost every family lost someone. The death of his grandmother in his twenties led him to emphasize "dialogue" with those who knew the war, and he compiled a self-published "signature" project in this book, in which he met face-to-face with veterans, who are living history, captured their images on Polaroid, and had them sign the Polaroid in person.
