One Big Self: Prisoners of Louisiana Deborah Luster+C. D. Wright Deborah Luster This book is a collection of portraits of prisoners in three Louisiana prisons taken in 1998 by an American woman photographer, Deborah Luster. Deborah, who lost her own mother to murder, dared to confront the prisoners she met in this project and allowed each of them to be photographed freely. The prisoners naturally brought their tools of work, their artwork, and their words to the camera, and began to express "who they wanted to be seen". What these photographs project, apart from the social aspect of their "convict" status, is their forgotten human dignity, and the very personalities that still remain strong.
