Regina Schmeken: Geschlossene Gesellschaft Photographien 1989-1993 German photographer Regina Schmeken, a photojournalist for the South German newspaper, photographed Germany and its neighboring countries from 1989 to 1993. 1989 was the year of the fall of the Berlin Wall, one of the most important events in German history, and it was followed by the reunification of Germany in 1990. This is a document of four turbulent years leading up to the reunification of Germany in 1990. The 71 black-and-white works in the exhibition, entitled "Closed Society," do not seek to focus on anything, but rather on the incidentals of history and the shadows of current events themselves.
